Budapest is undoubtedly one of the most Instagrammable cities in Europe. Considering that it's a very popular city among tourists, sometimes it's not enough to visit it outside the tourist season. That's why we have prepared this list of spots where you must take a pic in Budapest.
We Present A List Of The Most Instagrammable Spots In Budapest That You Can't Miss
1. Fisherman’s Bastion
The most popular and favorite place in Budapest for photographers and content creators. It is without a doubt the Fisherman's Bastion. Somehow it resembles a tower from Disney fairytales, which makes the place more magical.
Here you can play with the framing, take pictures on the balconies, by the columns or on the stairs. We recommend to stand by the columns, from where an amazing view of the Budapest Parliament opens up. Take care and be cautious, but try to take a photo on a balcony overlooking the Hungarian Parliament. You will not be disappointed with the result.
The best time to take photos
We recommend visiting this place at the sunrise. You will not only have the perfect light for taking photos, but also the whole place practically to yourself. Besides, entrance to the higher part of the tower is for free. Paid admission begins only from 9 o'clock - with the arrival of the first tours.
2. Hungarian Parliament
The Hungarian Parliament is Hungary's most recognizable building. There are two ways to take a picture with it. The first - go in front of the parliament building. From the side of the tram stop (Kossuth Lajos Tér M) walk towards the parliament. We recommend sitting on the wall next to the parliament ( there is greenery growing there). We also recommend taking photos and recording reels in the evening, as the illumination of the parliament is very impressive.
The best time to take photos
If you're visiting Budapest in the off-season, it doesn't really matter when you take pictures by the parliament. However, we recommend going here at sunrise or sunset for the best light. If, on the other hand, you're visiting the city in the summer, the best time to arrive is at sunrise.
3. Hungarian Parliament from the other side of Danube river
If you want the entire parliament building to be visible in the photo, then you need to go to the other side of the river, also known as Buda Side. It is from here that the view of the entire parliament building opens up.
How to get here? If you go here straight from the parliament, the easiest way is to take the subway and get off at Batthyany ter station. Cross the tram lines and you are already at the famous wall, from where a beautiful view of the entire parliament opens up. You have to walk a little to the left so that the parliament is centered in your picture.
The best time to take photos
There are never too many people here and there is a place for everyone. However, for beautiful light, come here just before sunset or at sunrise. It depends on what season you are visiting the city and how early you would have to get up.
4. Liberty Bridge
Instagram's famous "green" bridge with yellow trams passing on - it is another popular Instagrammable spot in Budapest. The prettiest photos are taken when you are sitting on the bridge itself (on the green part of the bridge), with the trams passing behind. Unfortunately, getting onto the bridge itself is not as easy as it sounds, so exercising at the gym has never been so useful. Be patiente and bring an intervalometer (we did around 150 shots here).
The best time to take photos
You can take photos at any time of the day, as few people manage to get onto the bridge. However, if you are shy of the gaze of passersby and prefer to have the place practically empty of pedestrians, come at the sunrise.
5. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge
It's a bridge described as connecting the two sides of Budapest - Buda and Pest. This bridge is another symbol of Budapest, and it often appears in movies, videos and photos. Therefore, this is another spot that you should save and return from Budapest with a photo with this bridge in the background.
The nicest photos are those made on the bridge, on the road, where there is a traffic island, on which cars are not allowed to drive. In general, this place is not very crowded, especially if you take a photo on the bridge.
Another way to take a photo with the bridge is to go to the boulevards. From there, a beautiful view of the bridge opens up, and you can play with angles to take photos.
The best time to take photos
You don't have to get up early in the morning, because both on the boulevards and on the bridge there is plenty of space to take photos without people getting in the way. If you take photos on the roadway, always be careful.
6. St. Stephen’s Basilica
It is not only the largest church in Budapest, but also the mostly photographed church in Hungary. You may not go inside the church, but taking a photo in front of it is a must.
The best photos are taken between buildings, on Zrinyi Street. This will allow you to show the size of the church, besides, the photo will not look very empty.
The best time to take photos
For this place, considering that it is an extremely touristy place with many restaurants and souvenir shops, you should come here as early as possible. Then you will get an empty street. So getting up early in the morning and coming with the sunrise is welcomed here.
7. Buda Castle
Buda Castle is another spot not to miss when you're in Budapest. For many centuries, the castle was the residence of the kings of Hungary. Today it is a collection of buildings that include museums open to the public. Unfortunately, there is currently construction work going on there, but that still doesn't interfere with taking photos in the castle's gardens.
The view from Buda Castle is very similar to that of Fisherman's Bastion, so we recommend focusing on the gardens and photos with the building in the background.
The best time to take photos
We recommend going to this place right after visiting and taking pictures at Fisherman's Bastion. It's quite close, and tours don't manage to reach this place yet. Besides, you can get some cool light.
8. Vajdahunyad Castle
This castle is located in the City Park, one of Budapest's largest parks. It is a very interesting architectural place, where you will find a mix of different styles: Baroque, Gothic, Renaissance and Romanesque. This place is pretty not only because of the castle, but also because of the park, which is great to walk around... after you take a photo, of course.
So, we recommend taking a photo overlooking the castle, to the right of the bridge. Walk down to the river (be careful not to fall into the water). Usually people do not come up with the idea to take a photo just from this perspective, and for us it was one of the most beautiful views of the castle.
The best time to take photos
You can take pictures at the place we mentioned earlier at any time of the day, as tourists usually don't come up with the idea of going down to take a picture from this perspective. However, if you want to take photos in the courtyard of the castle, we recommend coming early in the morning.
9. Széchenyi Baths
Another landmark of Budapest, which often appears on the influencers' and travelers' profiles. This place is called Budapest's most wanted and visited attraction, so if you want to take beautiful photos here, we recommend going early in the morning.
Szechenyi Baths were built in 1913 and have not changed since then. The pools here contain thermal waters (temperatures vary between 27 to 38 °C), loaded with sulfate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and a significant amount of metaboric acid and fluoride. There are both outdoor and indoor pools, as well as saunas.
The photos in front of the yellow buildings with steaming water are truly magical and create a dreamy vibe. I guess that's what makes so many people want to visit this place at least once. We recommend taking photos outside the building: both in the water and next to the pool, so that the steam, the blue water and, of course, the yellow buildings are visible.
The best time to take photos
Szechenyi Baths open from 7:00 and... this is the best time to visit it. Only then there are not a lot of people, and only then you will be able not only to take photos with comfort, but also to fully enjoy the place, which already begins to fill up with crowds of people from 9:00.
10. Gellért Thermal Bath
Another beautiful place for your Instagrammable photos - Gellert Thermal Bath. It is located next to the famous Gellert Hotel, which inspired the makers of the film The Hotel Grand Budapest. Gellert Thermal Baths were opened in 1918 in Art Nouveau style.
Here you'll also find a swimming pool for swimming, as well as several pools for relaxing in the thermal waters. Besides, you can enjoy a range of health services here, and even take a bath in red wine or even beer. The water contains calcium, magnesium, hydrocarbonate, alkalis, chloride, sulfate, and fluoride.
The water temperature ranges from 35°C to 40°C. The thermal baths are beautifully decorated with mosaics. The Gellért spa is famous for its main hall with a gallery and glass roof, built in the Art Nouveau style.
We recommend taking photos in the so-called “blue rooms” with thermal waters, where you will find beautiful sculptures and mosaics. Besides, you can also take photos on the balcony in the main hall with the swimming pool and by the pool itself.
The best time to take photos
Gellert Thermal Bath opens at 9:00 and this is the best time to come here. The rooms are much smaller than in Szechenyi, so the number of people here is very noticeable.
